PPARs are ligand-activated transcription factors involved in the transcriptional regulation of key metabolic pathways such as lipid metabolism, adipogenesis, and insulin sensitivity. More recent work implicates all 3 PPAR isotypes (α, γ, and δ) in inflammatory and atherosclerotic pathways. Because these nuclear receptors are activated by extracellular signals and control multiple gene targets, PPARs can be seen as nodes that control multiple inputs and outputs involved in energy balance, providing insight into how metabolism and the vasculature may be integrated. The ongoing clinical use of synthetic PPAR agonists, eg, insulin-sensitizing thiazolidinediones (TZDs) and lipid-lowering fibrates, and the evidence that PPAR activation also may limit inflammation and atherosclerosis have only heightened this interest and the pursuit of novel PPAR agonists. Together, these various observations have stimulated intense interest in PPARs as therapeutic targets and led to large-scale cardiovascular end-point trials with PPAR agonists.

Neuropeptides are peptidergic neurotransmitters, which are produced by neurons. Most neuropeptides where initially discovered in the brain, but later it became clear that a large number of these peptides is also present in secretory vesicles of unmylinated sensory nerve endings of the enteric nervous system. Neuropeptides in enteric nervous system include calcitonin gene-related peptide, vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, somatostatin and substance P, gatrin releasing peptide, neurotensin, motiline and galanin. Many of these peptides are also found in enterocytes in the mucosa. These neuropeptides are released from the enterocytes as a paracrine or endocrine substance under the influence enteric nervous system.- Apoptosis Significance and Molecular Mechanisms-A Review

Apoptosis, a form of programmed cell death, is a pivotal defense against the occurrence of cancer and is essential to metazoans in maintaining tissue homeostasis. Apoptosis exhibits a distinctive phenotype and involves elimination of potentially deleterious cells. Many diseases have been associated with aberrantly regulated apoptotic cell death, ultimately leading to inhibition of apoptosis and propagation of diseases such as cancer. This review highlights the significance of apoptosis, molecular mechanisms of apoptosis and various methods of causing cell death.Keywords

The present study was carried out to investigate the anti inflammatory, anti bacterial and anti fungal activity of of petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanolic extract obtained from Gmelina asiatica. All the extracts were prepared from aerial parts of Gmelina asiatica by hot percolation method in soxhlet apparatus. All extracts of Gmelina asiatica were tested for antibacterial efficacy against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi and pseudomonas aeruginosa and antifungal efficacy against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. The Antibacterial and Anti fungal effect produced by petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanol extract were comparable to that of Amikacin and Griseofulvin. The Chloroform extract was found to be more effective and showed Anti bacterial and antifungal activity against the entire organism tested. All the extracts at dose concentration (500 mg/kg) were screened for antimicrobial activity. The ethanolic extract of Gmelina asiatica at (250 and 500 mg/kg) concentrations exhibited anti inflammatory activity in carrageenan induced rat paw oedema, histamine induced odema, dextran induced odema and cotton pellet induced granuloma method, and the results are compared to that of standard drug Indomethacin. The results were found to be significiant (P<0.001) when compared to control.Keywords

Anxiety is defined as the state of fear, apprehension, tension, panic and restlessness. If the symptoms of anxiety interfers the daily life activities then these are called anxiety disorders. Nowadays, anxiety became an important symptom of various mental disorders such as major depressive disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, panic disorders, post traumatic stress disorders and various phobias. These disorders mainly affects one-eighth of the total population worldwide and became an important area in the psychopharmacology. The management of anxiety disorders results in high expenditure and negative impact on quality of life. Currently allopathic drugs became the major scenario in the anxiety treatments but these treatments produce large amounts of adverse effects. Use of herbal remedies for the treatment of anxiety is in fast progress. The phytoconstituents of these medicinal plants are found to be acting through the serotonin and GABA neurotransmitters.Keywords

In recent years, medicinal plants play an important role in allopathic medicine, herbal medicine, homoeopathy and aromatherapy, as being the sources of many imperative drugs in the modern world. Use of potent herbal medicines like Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) belongs to Moraceae family against various ailments to reduce the adverse effects of various orthodoxallopathic medicines. The detrimental side effects of conventional antibiotics can be easily overcome by the use of these medicinal plants as analternative treatment of diseases by producing a variety of compounds of known therapeutic properties. Many research works are ongoing with Artocarpus altilis and paid more attention to its bioactive constituents for the development of newer medicines in the pharmaceutical field.Keywords
